Gender Company

Natacha Henry set up the association Gender Company in Paris in 2005 after ten years on the board of the Association des femmes journalistes.

Gender Company works on gender discrimination in the media and popular culture. It provides tools to inform about and fight against all forms of sexism, both violent and non-violent, and takes part in various national and international projects:

  • Conferences: the media, sexual reputations and violence, domestic violence, FSM, prostitution, parity in politics…
    Our interventions are adapted to the audience (professionals, students, activists, politicians).

    • 13 March, Lille University: “Sexist behaviour: the media’s responsibility?”
    • 25 Nov., Paris: police, social workers, medical staff - round-tables “How do we deal with domestic violence?”
  • Studies and reports:
    In 2009, Natacha Henry was the regional coordinator for the International Women’s Media Foundation’s Global Report on the Status of Women in the News Media (66 nations). www.iwmf.org.

    She also co-wrote a guide for teenage girls, “18 ans? Respect, les Filles!” commissioned by the French Ministry of Solidarity.

  • Short films: Gender Company is the French producer for The Broadcasting for Change Network (41 countries) for TVE London. In 2007, Paris Parity. www.tve.org
  • Training: aimed at women’s associations, Gender Company offers two courses, “Public Speaking” and “How to Deal with the Press”.
    Duration: ½ day or 1 day. Participants: 1 to 10 max.
